Carlos Rodon believes Yankees fans more 'invested' than Giants fans
Rodón believes Yankees fans more 'invested' than Giants fans originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
Carlos Rodón was memorable in his lone year with the Giants last season, and he subsequently parlayed that success into a six-year, $162 million contract with the New York Yankees.
Now playing on the East Coast, Rodón explained the main difference between the fans in New York and those in the Bay Area.
"The fans here want to win. They care. They care a lot," Rodón said (h/t NJ.com's Bob Klapisch). "Giants fans are invested, but not like in New York.
"Win or lose, you're not going to get booed in San Francisco."
On Sept. 4, Rodón said after the Giants' 5-3 walk-off win over the Arizona Diamondbacks that San Francisco has "very faithful fans" and explained that Giants fans "care" and was "grateful" to them for continuing to support the team, even amid a long losing streak.
And while the Giants fanbase certainly is more relaxed in comparison to the Yankees, the 30-year-old will have to prepare himself, not just for the fans but also for the highly-critical New York media.
New York has not won a World Series since 2009 and in an environment bred from decades of winning, anything less than a championship is a failure in the eyes of Yankees fans and the hypercritical media.
Meanwhile, the Giants have won three World Series titles in the last 13 years so it stands to reason why San Francisco's fans are more forgiving, though they are still hungry for another championship.

With Rodón starting a new chapter in pinstripes and the Giants looking to recapture the success of their 2021 MLB season, it remains to be seen how either side will fare once the season starts.
One thing is for certain: It definitely will be interesting to see how Rodón performs against the Giants when San Francisco starts its season with a three-game series at Yankee Stadium on March 30.
