Carl Nassib’s best chance at NFL success is with Tampa Bay

Carl Nassib is back on an NFL roster and it is one where he can thrive once again. The former Penn State defensive end was originally drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2016 before making a stop on the Buccaneers where he finds himself once again.

Carl Nassib has been in the NFL for six seasons. When he enrolled at Penn State as a student and joined the football team as a walk-on no one could have imagined him becoming the player he is now. Is he going to win any All-Pro or Pro Bowl nominations? Probably not. Has he proven to be a successful pro? Absolutely.

As a Cleveland Brown, he found moderate success but was more know for his appearance on Hard Knocks. On the HBO hit show that followed the Cleveland Browns during training camp, he went viral for his math and financial assistance to his fellow players. During that season of Hard Knocks, Nassib would get cut by Cleveland but would sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and become a vital rotational piece on Todd Bowles’ defense.

Under the direction of Bowles, he would 12.5 sacks, 20 tackles for a loss, and force three fumbles. In six seasons in total, he has 22 sacks in his career.

The Todd Bowles defensive system works for him, they have depth at the position, and he can thrive as being a part of the rotation. What would a successful season look like for the former Nittany Lion?

The answer to that is simple, provide a veteran presence in the locker room and keep the entire defensive end group fresh. He has shown to be an excellent leader, the team isn’t that far removed from a Super Bowl. They look for leaders, they found one in Carl Nassib.
