Carl Junction wrestlers beat Neosho

Jan. 24—NEOSHO — The Carl Junction Bulldog wrestling team jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back, defeating the Neosho Wildcats 46-21 in the final match of a triangular with Marshfield on Tuesday night at Neosho High School.

In earlier duals, Carl Junction defeated Marshfield 51-24 and Neosho beat Marshfield 76-6.

Carl Junction opened its dual against Neosho with a pin, when Sam Melton, up 7-5, took care of Neosho's Sebastian Ioanis at 120 pounds.

The Bulldogs increased their lead to 10-0 with a Drake Richardson major decision (14-6) over Neosho's Kelton Shaffer at 126 pounds.

Neosho got its first points on the board at 132 pounds, when Fisher Butler managed a last-second escape to beat CJ's Max Matthews 3-2.

In another close match, Camdon Kunkle defeated Neosho's Brody Mitchell at 138 pounds, 11-9, to put CJ up in the dual 13-3.

In the 144-pound match, Neosho's Carter Howard defeated Carl Junction's Brenden Berry via pin to bring the Wildcats within four points at 13-9.

CJ got back on the winning track at 150 pounds, when Aaron Dillingham logged a 9-2 decision over Lincoln Howard. Dexter Merrell increased the Bulldog lead to 22-9 with a first-period pin of Neosho's Kade Lawson at 157 pounds, but Neosho responded with a Chase Kivett pin of CJ's Max Arnold at 165-pounds to draw closer at 22-15.

Carl Junction's Marcus Lopez-Durman wrestled up a weight class from previous matches and logged a second-period pin of Neosho's Kaymone Rhone at 175 pounds to put the Bulldogs up 28-15.

At 190 pounds, Tony Stewart pinned Neosho's Dayton Kivett and CJ led 34-15.

In a tight match, Josh Cassatt held on for a 6-5 decision over Neosho's Ryan Counts in their 215-pound match that sealed a win for the Bulldogs, who were up 37-15, with just three matches remaining.

In the 285-pound match, Neosho's Everson Tomlinson defeated Blake Starks with a pin early in the first period.

In th 106-pound match, CJ's Zane Gunnett pinned Neosho's Skiler Shideler to put CJ up 43-21, with one match remaining.

In the finale of the night, Carter Fogelsong logged a 12-2 major decision over Anthony Stotts in their 113-pound bout. After a 1-point coaches penalty on Carl Junction, the Bulldogs went on to claim the 46-21 win.
