Cardinals Week 16 defensive snap counts and observations

The Arizona Cardinals played a whopping 83 defensive snaps in their 33-26 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 16. How was the playing time divided up?

We look at the numbers for each player and position group below.

Defensive line

Zach Allen, 74; Angelo Blackson, 40; Domata Peko, 35; Leki Fotu, 29; Rashard Lawrence, 24

Allen played almost the entire game, which is a change from how the defensive linemen normally rotate. The rest of the group rotated in and out. Allen stayed on the field and was hugely productive.

Outside linebacker

Haason Reddick, 80; Markus Golden, 47; Dennis Gardeck, 24; Devon Kennard, 7

Reddick continues to be a workhorse. It looks like they didn't use many outside linebackers. What is not noted here are the total number of snaps for Isaiah Simmons, who played inside and outside linebacker, as well as safety. Kennard continues to have a minimal role. Gardeck played a career-high number of snaps on defense. He did leave late in the game with an injury.

Inside linebacker

Jordan Hicks, 83; Isaiah Simmons, 63; De'Vondre Campbell, 35; Zeke Turner, 3

Turner came in late in the team's "Jet" defensive package. Simmons was used all over. He played safety in some base sets. In some nickel sets, he was at inside linebacker with Campbell coming out. In others, he played outside linebacker. We wills ee if he is used like this in the final two weeks of the season.

Cornerback

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Patrick Peterson, 83; Dre Kirkpatrick, 80; Byron Murphy, 61

The Cardinals were in nickel for a lot of the game, as evidenced by Murphy's snap count.

Safety

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Budda Baker, 83; Chris Banjo, 62

Simmons played a bit of safety as well. Listen to the latest from Cards Wire's Jess Root on his podcast, Rise Up, See Red. Subscribe on Apple podcasts or Spotify. Latest show:
