Cardinals place RHP Wacha (oblique) on DL

The St. Louis Cardinals placed right-hander Michael Wacha on the 10-day disabled list Thursday with a left oblique strain.

Right-hander John Gant was recalled from Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move.

The DL stint for Wacha was expected after he left Wednesday's contest against the Philadelphia Phillies as a result of the injury. Wacha winced after throwing ball four to Philadelphia's Rhys Hoskins with two outs in the fourth inning. He was set to undergo an MRI on Thursday in Milwaukee, where the Cardinals are playing the Brewers in a four-game set.

Wacha gave up three runs (one earned) and six hits in 3 2/3 innings, as the Cardinals went on to lose, 4-3.

On the season, Wacha is 8-2 with a 3.20 ERA in 15 starts.

Gant returns to the Cardinals for his third stint this season. The 25-year-old is 1-2 with a 4.74 ERA in seven games (three starts).
