The Arizona Cardinals announced a number of roster moves on Friday on the eve of their Week 16 game against the San Francisco 49ers. They placed a player on injured reserve, added two players to the roster, elevated one from the practice squad for the game and signed a kicker to the practice squad.

Dennis Gardeck to IR

Gardeck injured his knee in the Cardinals' 33-26 win over the Philadelphia Eagles after getting two sacks in the game. The move to IR was expected, as head coach Kliff Kingsbury said it would happen on Thursday. He finishes the year with seven sacks on 93 defensive snaps.

K Mike Nugent, TE Seth DeValve signed to active roster

With kicker Zane Gonzalez landing on injured reserve earlier in the week and with Gardeck being placed on IR on Friday, the Cardinals had two roster spots to fill. One is filled by Nugent, who kicked the last two weeks, and the other is filled by DeValve, who twice has been elevated from the practice squad to the active roster. DeValve's addition gives the Cardinals four tight ends on the roster. Maxx Williams, Dan Arnold and Darrell Daniels are all officially listed as questionable for the game on Saturday.

The Cardinals use one of their two possible standard elevations from the practice squad on Smith, who was elevated last week as well. he played special teams against the Eagles, filling the role usually played by Kylie Fitts. Fitts missed the game with a hamstring injury last week and is questionable this week.

Maher replaces Nugent on the practice squad. Maher worked out earlier with the Cardinals. Maher is 31 years old and has been on and off NFL rosters since 2013. However, he only played in 2018 and 2019 in the regular season for the Dallas Cowboys. In two seasons, he played in 29 games and made 49-of-66 field goals and 68-of-69 extra points. However, he has only made 8-of-16 kicks between 40-49 yards and is 10-of-15 beyond 50 yards. He has spent time with the Cowboys, New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Washington Football Team and Houston Texans. Listen to the latest from Cards Wire's Jess Root on his podcast, Rise Up, See Red.
