Cardinals to have joint practices with Vikings before preseason finale

The Arizona Cardinals will hold joint practices in the preseason for the second consecutive year. This year, they will have them with the Minnesota Vikings.

They face the Vikings in their preseason finale on Saturday, August 26. It is their only road preseason game.

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell announced it on Tuesday to reporters.

The Cardinals and Vikings will have two days of practices after the Vikings also hold joint practices against the Tennessee Titans.

The Cardinals held joint practices with the Titans last year.

O’Connell said he knows both Titans head coach Mike Vrabel and Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon.

The Cardinals only really have the Vikings they can hold joint practices with.

We won’t Arizona hosting for a couple of reasons.

The Cardinals practice inside at State Farm Stadium and those facilities are not able to aptly handle two 90-man rosters, meaning they would have to practice outside.

That leads to the other reason — the August heat. No team will want to come practice in 100-degree (or hotter) heat to have a joint practice with the Cardinals. Even the Cardinals rarely practice outside during training camp.

Details of those practices will be forthcoming as will an announcement from the Cardinals, but we can either expect the practices to be on August 22-23 or 23-24.
