Cardinal girls bounce back from first loss to down Pella

Jan. 24—Genessa Slings and Gabbie Humphrey finished 1-2 in the final standings and the Newton girls' bowling team overcame a season-high pin total from Pella during a home win on Saturday.

The Cardinals were outscored in the Baker games but a significant advantage in the individual portion of the day led the hosts to a 2,299 to 2,109 victory at Cardinal Lanes.

Newton downed its rival despite being outscored 722-694 in the Bakers. The Cardinals led 1,605 to 1,387 after the individual round.

Slings was the overall winner with a 379 series and Humphrey posted a 359 in second. Slings' single games were 191 and 182, while Humphrey turned in a 135 and a 224.

Libbie Keith, Maria Baxin and Kelly Holmes were fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. Keith finished with a 319 series, while Baxin had a 287 and Holmes turned in a 267.
