Feb. 22—The Center Fire Department responded to an overturned car Tuesday afternoon on Edgefield Highway.

The accident occurred around 2:50 p.m. Tuesday near 1693 Edgefield Highway. One vehicle was involved and appears to have been driven off the right side of the road before hitting a metal fence and flipping over.

Dispatch said the car was smoking.

The extent of the injuries to those in the car was unclear. Center firefighters were still working on helping someone out of the vehicle when the Aiken Standard arrived on scene.

One lane of the highway is closed.

A state trooper and an Aiken County Sheriff's Office deputy are directing traffic. Expect delays.
