The Capitals may lead the Metropolitan Division while the Devils occupy the basement of the standings, but the pressure will be on Washington on Thursday night when they play host to New Jersey for the second time in less than a week.
A 5-1 upset on Saturday allowed the Devils to snap their three-game losing streak. They'll now return to D.C. looking to play the role of spoiler once again as the Capitals look to maintain their hold atop the NHL.
Before these two divisional opponents take the ice, here's what you need to know prior to puck drop.

CAPITALS-DEVILS PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Capitals: C Nicklas Backstrom (9 G, 26 A, 50.7 FO%)
Fresh off signing a five-year, $46 million extension with Washington, Nicklas Backstrom will take the ice Thursday looking to get back in the scoring column after his eight-game point streak was snapped against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday. He's just five points away from being one of only four players with 40+ points in each of their last 13 seasons, joining teammate Alex Ovechkin, Patrick Kane and Anze Kopitar.
Devils: C Blake Coleman (15 G, 8 A, 11.2 S%)
Production has been hard to find for this struggling Devils squad, but Blake Coleman has quietly been one of the team's best goal scorers while playing on the second line. The 28-year-old center is the only member of the Devils with double-digit even strength goals this season. (Detroit is the only other team with just one, while the Capitals lead the league with six.)
