Capcom has announced the location of the first day of Capcom Cup 2016.
The Esports Arena in Santa Ana, CA. will host day one of Capcom Cup, featuring Top 32 to Top 8 play on Friday, December 2.
Capcom also revealed a change in the format of play. For the first time in Capcom Cup’s history, Top 16 and onward will be first-to-three. Traditionally, the tournament runs first-to-two before switching to longer sets in Top 8.
“The day one event is more for our hardcore fans who want to watch every match,” Capcom’s director of digital media and esports Neidel “Haunts” Crisan told Yahoo Esports. “Capcom Cup last year was a really long day. We’re trying to move towards a two-day event and have approximately a three- to four-hour broadcast at PlayStation Experience.”
Esports Arena is no stranger to hosting Capcom Pro Tour Premier Events. SoCal Regionals 2016 recently took place at the venue and it is the site of the weekly Wednesday Night Fights tournaments.
Last month, Capcom announced details for Finals day at PlayStation Experience. Top 8 will begin at 6:00 pm PT Saturday, December 3. For more details on tickets and pricing, visit the official PSX site.
One other note of interest: Akuma was teased for Street Fighter V this past weekend at Red Bull Battle Grounds. The returning villain will be playable at PSX, which runs December 3-4.
