Can't Wait For Saturday | At long last, Chun lands an AD job in the Big Ten. Welcome aboard

Mar. 31—***

Congrats to Pat Chun, who is finally an athletic director in the Big Ten, a conference he knew well as a long-time administrator at Ohio State.

He worked in the school's sports information office, then started to rise in the profession.

Ultimately, he became athletic director at Florida Atlantic and then Washington State. During his time at FAU, he was considered a contender for the Illinois job after the firing of Mike Thomas, Josh Whitman was hired and is moving toward the end of his first decade on the job.

Chun is going to be a cohort of Whitman as the new AD at Washington. That job opened when Troy Dannen left for the same post at Nebraska.

It is is going to be one big, happy 18-member family in the Big Ten with a lot of seats.

Thankfully, Chun won't have to worry about hiring a new football coach after the departure of Kalen DeBoer to Alabama. Dannen took care of that, plucking Jedd Fisch from new Big 12 school Arizona. This is going to be confusing for a few years keeping every conference affiliation straight.

Chun is set with the basketball coach too. Washington just hired Utah State's awesomely-named Dany Sprinkle away from Utah State. Mike Hopkins was let go after the season.

A request to the Big Ten: Please make the athletic directors available to reporters during Big Ten media days this summer. Lots of new faces to get to know.
