The nice folks in charge of the College Football Playoff selections released their first 2023 rankings Tuesday.

Very little to quibble about. Ohio State deserved the top spot based on its wins against Notre Dame and Penn State.

The top four includes the teams that should be in there Washington has a small gripe, but the Huskies haven't been great since the home victory against Oregon, taking close games against Arizona State and Stanford. I promise if Washington wins out, it will be one of the four semifinalists.

If you want to have some real fun with the initial CFP rankings, imagine it is 2024, when 12 make the final cut. If that was the case this year, the SEC would have four bids, the Big Ten three, the Big 12 and Pac-12 two each and one for ACC. That's five leagues represented but the SEC and Big Ten taking 58 percent of the bids.

My hunch: Twelve will turn into 16 and maybe even 24. You read it here first.

Do you miss the bowl alliance? I don't.
