Canha's pinch-hit HR in 7th leads A's past Giants, 4-3

Mark Canha hit a pinch-hit, go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh inning to lead the visiting Oakland Athletics past the San Francisco Giants 4-3 on Saturday at AT&T Park.

The win is the 20th in the last 26 games for the Athletics. The Giants' loss was just their second in the last six games.

Oakland trailed 3-2 entering the top of the seventh before rallying against Giants southpaw Tony Watson (2-3). Josh Phegley led off the inning with a single before Canha hit for pitcher Yusmeiro Petit and crushed a full-count offering to left field for his 12th home run and the 4-3 lead.

Petit (4-2) earned the win with 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Lou Trivino fanned three over two scoreless innings, and Blake Treinen pitched around two two-out walks in the ninth for his 24th save. Treinen struck out two.

The Athletics got on the board first in the second inning, with Phegley driving in Matt Chapman with a sacrifice fly. The Giants answered back in the bottom of the inning, as Steven Duggar led off with a double and scored on an Alen Hanson single.

The Giants took the lead in the fourth. Gorkys Hernandez and Duggar (RBI) started the frame with back-to-back doubles. Austin Slater scored Duggar with a single for the 3-2 edge, chasing Athletics starter Brett Anderson at the same time.

Anderson, who returned from a lengthy stint on the disabled list (shoulder) in his last start, allowed three runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings, striking out one, walking none and hitting a batter. He stranded the bases loaded in the first inning.

Giants starter Jeff Samardzija, also making his second start off the DL after a shoulder injury, allowed two runs on three hits in four innings, walking two, striking out one and also hitting a batter.

Derek Holland relieved Samardzija, striking out five in a row to begin his scoreless two innings of work.

San Francisco first baseman Brandon Belt was ejected from the contest between innings following a heated exchange with third base umpire Greg Gibson after Gibson rung him up on a check swing in the fourth. Belt threw his glove in the midst of the argument, and Giants players needed to step in to break it up.

Pablo Sandoval replaced Belt at first base.

Oakland All-Star second baseman Jed Lowrie, who left Friday's contest with a bruised leg, struck out as a pinch hitter in the ninth.
