Cam Newton hits the deck on a minor hit: Flop or not?

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has had trouble through the years getting calls on late hits from officials, so he tried to sell them on one Sunday.

On a play going toward the sideline, Newton threw away a pass as Minnesota Vikings linebacker Eric Kendricks was bearing down on him. Kendricks hit Newton … kind of. If you want to call it a hit. He made some contact with Newton, and Newton went down hard.

So the question is simple: Was this a flop by Newton?

It’s probably fair to say Newton embellished a bit. There was no penalty on the play.

Maybe Newton was trying out for a new career in soccer when he’s done in the NFL.
