Cam Johnson could draw interest from Detroit Pistons per report
Former North Carolina wing Cam Johnson was part of the blockbuster trade that sent Kevin Durant from Brooklyn to the Phoenix Suns ahead of the NBA trade deadline in 2023.
After a few years in Phoenix, Johnson found a new home with the Nets and played well as he helped lead them to the playoffs. But now he could have a new home again in free agency.
Johnson reportedly turned down an extension with the Suns and will be a restricted free agent this summer. While Brooklyn would ideally want to bring him back, Johnson could get a big offer sheet that they may not be ready to match.
And one of the teams reportedly interested are the Detroit Pistons. Here is what Bleacher Report’s Mike Chiari wrote on the situation:
The Detroit Pistons reportedly have interest in wings Jerami Grant and Cam Johnson ahead of free agency this offseason.
Appearing on the HoopsHype Podcast, James Edwards of The Athletic said Grant is arguably the biggest name the Pistons are pursuing, and they “went into the offseason with the anticipation of trying to get him.”
Edwards added that he believes Detroit “at least throws an offer sheet” at Johnson as well, although the Brooklyn Nets could match it since he is a restricted free agent.
Johnson would be a fit in Detroit and he could cash in on a big pay day there as well. With a young core, the Pistons would love to add a big piece like Johnson, especially on the perimeter.
Either way, it sounds like there will be a lot of interest for Johnson this Summer.
