Caldwell women's softball wins 3 games over Cleveland

Caldwell 7, Cleveland 4

Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute's softball team opened the 2024 season with a 7-4 win over Cleveland Community College on Friday. It was also the Cobras' first win in their new home: Aaron B. Kiziah Field and the McCreary Sports Complex at the Town of Hudson Optimist Park.

Ashley Antonio's home run in the bottom of the first gave Caldwell an early 1-0 lead. After surrendering two runs in the top of the third, the Cobras reclaimed the lead with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Kacey Triplett led off the inning with a solo home run to make the game 2-1 while Emily Dudley's one-out, two RBI double made the score 4-1. Carlee Tart's RBI double made the score 5-1.

Caldwell's Mattie Poulos had an RBI double in the fourth inning and Triplett had her second home run of the game in sixth inning to close out the Cobras' scoring.

Caldwell's Isabelle Curry picked up the win in the circle, pitching five innings while allowing seven hits, three runs (all earned) and striking out two.

Caldwell 10, Cleveland 2

Caldwell built an early lead and had five extra base hits enroute to a 10-2 win over Cleveland in game two of Friday's double header in Hudson.

Kacey Triplett went 2-for-3 with a double and home run on her way to collecting five RBI. Her home run in the bottom of the third inning was a grand slam. Maddison Powell also had a home run in the game; a two-run shot coming in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Cobras the necessary eight run lead for the mercy rule victory.

Logan Harris started the game in the circle and was credited for the victory, allowing no runs and only one hit in four innings of work.

Saturday, Feb. 3

Caldwell 10, Cleveland 9

Trailing 7-2 and 9-6, Caldwell rallied to claim a 10-9 victory over Cleveland in game one of a double header on Saturday in Shelby.

With the score 7-2 going into the sixth inning, Caldwell took advantage of two Cleveland errors to start a four-run rally. Carlee Tart's RBI sacrifice fly made the score 7-3. The Cobras then got back-to-back singles by Logan Harris and Hannah Mozeley to make the score 7-6. Cleveland would answer back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 9-6 going into the final inning.

In the top of the seventh, Emily Dudley hit a two out, three RBI home run to tie the game at 9-9. Tart drew a walk, stole second base and scored on an RBI single by Sydney Ferguson to give Caldwell a 10-9 lead. The Yetis threatened in the bottom of the seventh with runners at first and second and two outs before Caldwell got a ground out to end the game.

Cleveland 15, Caldwell 14

Cleveland rallied for six runs in the bottom of the seventh to hand Caldwell their first loss of the 2024 season, winning 15-14 in game two of a double header Saturday in Shelby.

Cleveland's Andrea Melton hit a walk-off, three-run home run to seal the Yeti's come from behind victory.

Taryn Estes had two home runs and three RBI in the loss for the Cobras. Maggie Bullard collected four RBI off of two hits while Kacey Triplett had three RBI.
