Caddo Mills-ex Kaydee Bennett leads Abilene Christian in softball wins over Texas A&M-Commerce

Feb. 26—COMMERCE — Caddo Mills-ex Kaydee Bennett returned to her former home field to help Abilene Christian beat Texas A&M University-Commerce 14-5 in non-conference softball on Sunday.

Bennett, who led A&M-Commerce last season with a .320 batting average, led the game off with a double and scored the Wildcats' first run.

She also slugged a solo home run to right field in the seventh inning, finishing 2-for-5 at the plate.

Olivia Marble and Catrin Hoffman also homered for the Wildcats, who pounded 17 hits off five Lion pitchers.

A&M-Commerce scored its five unearned runs off three hits and three Wildcat errors. Isabella Arzola, Diamond Sefe and Darby Hickey all singled and scored for the Lions.

Abilene Christian won game two of the series 5-1 on Monday morning.

Bennett went 2-for-3 at the plate and Marble rang up three hits.

Stephanie Tapia led the Lions with two hits and Isabella Arzola singled and scored on Darby Hickey's double.

Abilene Christian took the third game of the series, 6-2 on Monday. Bennett went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and a homer. Bennett batted 6-for-12 in the three-game series with two homers, two doubles, five runs scored and two runs batted in. Bennett leads the Western Athletic Conference with her batting average of .490.

Marble also went 3-for-4, while Avery Miloch, Skylar Padgett and Rachel Cook slugged home runs for the Wildcats, who improved to 7-9 for the season.

Ashley Diaz homered in the second inning for the Lions and Sefe drove in Ashlynn Griffith for the Lions in the seventh. Griffith led the Lions with two hits.

The Lions went 1-6 during a seven-game homestand that started on Friday. They lost 7-0 to Omaha and beat South Dakota 3-2 on Friday. They lost 4-1 to South Dakota and 2-0 in eighth innings to Tarleton on Saturday.

Now 5-13 for the season, the Lions are scheduled to play three games at home this weekend against the University of Houston, starting at 6 p.m. on Friday at the John Cain Family Softball Complex. The two teams are also to play at noon on Saturday and noon on Sunday.
