Cabrera's stuff is elite, but he's a risky add

Christopher Crawford tells fantasy managers what they need to know about Miami Marlins top pitching prospect Edward Cabrera before his highly-anticipated MLB debut.

CHRISTOPHER CRAWFORD: The Marlins are absolutely loaded in young pitching. And one of the best arms in the system is going to make his debut on Wednesday in Edward Cabrera. Cabrera got off to a late start on the season with an injury. But he posted a 2.93 ERA in his 13 starts over various minor league levels. And he struck out 92 hitters over that time frame.

Now, he only struck out six hitters over his last four innings in his previous start. But the three before that, he struck out 12, 11, and another dozen respectively. With three pitches that get plus grades from scouts, including a fastball with movement, missing bat should not be an issue for the 23-year-old.

What might be an issue, however, is that Cabrera has had command issues. And he has walked a lackluster 25 batters in his 61 and 1/3 innings. He would also not be the first, nor will he be the last, to have an adjustment period upon his first taste of MLB action.

That being said, Cabrera's stuff is outstanding. And it's worth pointing out he gets a pretty soft landing against a not so good Nationals lineup outside of Juan Soto, of course. There is some risk. But there's an awful lot of reward that comes with adding Cabrera to your fantasy roster.
