Bulldogs get knocked down by Carver, look to get up against Dougherty

Feb. 5—THOMASVILLE — It has been a rough season for the Thomasville Bulldogs on the hardwood. With Just five wins in the season and no wins in region play, the Bulldogs currently sit in last place and will need a miracle to rise in the standings.

Thomasville faced a tough regional test on Saturday night as they welcomed Carver. The Tigers are currently 6-2 in the region and tied for first in the region with Dougherty and Monroe. Carver picked up win number 19 in Thomasville, as they took down the Bulldogs 65-25.

It was an all around effort for the Tigers as six different players finished with seven or more points. Sophomore Jeron McKenzie led Carver with ten points.

Tobias Tolbert stole the show on Saturday night, however. The 6'6, 180 lbs. sophomore had just six points, but his presence was truly felt in the low post. The young power forward secured 12 rebounds in the game, five of which were on the offensive end. Tolbert also had a remarkable seven blocks in the game. Carver was extremely solid on the defensive end. They racked up 22 defensive boards, seven steals, led by freshman Ashton Thomas, who had four takeaways.

Now, on Tuesday the Bulldogs will have to bounce back for another tough matchup against Dougherty. As stated before, Dougherty is part of a three way tie for first place in the region. Thomasville's defense will have to step up in this one and they will have to do it early. Dougherty averages over 15 points in the first three quarters, meaning that when they get it going on offense, it doesn't slow down. They are consistent and solid on the offensive end, so the Bulldogs will have to be disruptive on defense.

Dougherty and Thomasville have met once this season already. On January 19, the Bulldogs took a home loss to the Trojans 74-51. Dougherty had their best quarter in that game right off the bat, scoring 22 points in the first quarter. The defensive focus will be on Traevon Williams and Jeremiah Kitchen, as those two dominated the scoring column for the Trojans in their last meeting with Thomasville, combining for 32 points.

Thomasville will travel to Dougherty for this region matchup on Tuesday with the game beginning at 7:30 p.m.
