Buffs fall in battle with Coweta

Feb. 13—The Buffs worked to the final horn.

McAlester hosted Coweta Tuesday inside the McAlester Activity Center for Senior Night festivities and the regular season finale, with the Buffs battling but falling 67-44 to the Tigers.

Coweta broke the ice with a three, but McAlester answered right back with a bucket from Garrett Pickett. The Tigers responded with another run, but this time it was answered by DaVantrae McKendrick with a hard-earned driving score.

McAlester earned another two points on a shot from De'Veion Bickham, but it'd be Coweta taking the 19-6 lead after the opening quarter.

The Buffs fought through the second quarter, but it'd be the Tigers taking the 38-17 lead at the half.

Both team battled out of the locker room, with McAlester earning points from Isaiah Hishaw, Alex Doony, Bickham, McKendrick, and Pickett — but Coweta answered in kind to take a 58-35 lead over the Buffs.

McAlester fought to the finish, but it'd be the Tigers taking home the win.

McKendrick led the Buffs with 14 points, followed by Bickham and Dooney with eight points each, Pickett with six points, Davien Pouncil with four points, and Brandon Smith, Hishaw, Kayden Harris, and Mason Coxsey with two points each.

Next up for McAlester, the Buffs will get back to work on the hardwood as they prepare for the postseason — scheduled for Feb. 20-24.
