As the only player in NFL history to start his career with eight straight seasons of at least 1,000 receiving yards, Mike Evans knows what a good wide receiver looks like.

So it’s high praise when he decides to single out one of his teammates during training camp, something he did after Friday’s practice, singling out third-year pass-catcher Tyler Johnson.

“It’s pretty early. I think we have a great wide receiver room this year,” Evans told the media. “Probably the best that I’ve been around. It’s very early to tell, but I like all the young guys. I feel like Tyler Johnson is in tiptop shape, he’s looking really good. If I had to choose one guy right now – I know it’s only been three days, but Tyler Johnson looks really good.”

Johnson is facing an uphill battle to make the final roster this year, thanks to a loaded position group that added the likes of Julio Jones and Russell Gage, and already boasted a pair of Pro Bowlers in Evans and Chris Godwin.

Clearly, he’s doing everything he can to stand out from the pack and earn one of those final spots coming out of training camp.
