Continuing a recent trend, another Bucs free agent is heading to Kansas City.
Former Bucs OT Donovan Smith is signing a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs according to NFL reporter Tom Pelissero. Smith joins former Bucs players like Ronald Jones, Justin Watson, Mike Edwards and Blaine Gabbert to join the Chiefs. The deal is worth around $9 million.
Smith played 124 games for the Buccaneers. His tenure in Tampa Bay has been up-and-down, as his play could shift between solid production like he had during the team’s Super Bowl year to penalty-ridden years like his 2022 year, where he led the NFL in penalty yards.
The Bucs released Smith after his 2022 season. Replacing him has become perhaps the most significant part of Tampa Bay’s offseason. At the moment, it is looking increasingly likely that RT Tristan Wirfs moves over to the other side.
