Buckeye Valley's Grace Daily named Columbus area high school athlete of the week

Just three weeks left in the spring sports season

In a vote that ended May 20, Dispatch.com readers selected the Athlete of the Week for competitions that took place from May 9-15.

This week's winner is Buckeye Valley sprinter Grace Daily.

Daily won the 100 (12.72) and 200 (26.1) in the MSL-Ohio Division meet.

Daily received 93.% of the vote and was followed by Hilliard Darby track and field athlete Alex Smith (4%).

Last week's winner: Thomas Worthington's Katie Niven named Columbus area high school athlete of the week

Smith, the runner-up, broke the OCC-Cardinal 200 record (21.72 seconds) with a time of 21.65 in the preliminary at the conference meet, then broke it again in the final with a time of 21.2. Also broke the OCC-Cardinal long jump record (23 feet, 8 1/2 inches) with a 24-11 1/2 and was on the winning 400 relay team (43.06).

The Athlete of the Week voting recognizes athletes across all sports.

Nominations are due Monday mornings for competitions that took place the previous week.

Once athletes win during the regular season, they're not eligible to be back on the ballot until the postseason. Athletes who have not been a recipient of one of the weekly awards can be nominated more than once.
