Bryce Harper came to New York looking for redemption. He’ll leave having found only disappointment.

At least that’s true for Bryce Harper, the video gamer.

The Philadelphia Phillies’ new outfielder stopped by the studios of “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” this week to battle Jimmy Fallon himself in a video game Home Run Derby on “MLB The Show 19.”

As the video shows, Harper suffered a painful defeat.

Harper not surprisingly selected himself for the battle. Fallon chose New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge.

In the end, Fallon celebrated a walk-off 6-5 win with 20 seconds left on the clock.

It’s the second time Harper has lost a Home Run Derby in dramatic fashion in New York. In 2013, he finished second to then Oakland Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes at Citi Field. The final round saw Cespedes pull off a 9-8 victory.

Granted, that one was real. But based on Fallon and Harper’s reaction there was real pride on the line during the video game derby.

On the bright side for Harper, he did get some form of redemption by winning the 2018 MLB Home Run Derby. On that night, Harper outslugged Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy and Kyle Schwarber to bring home the trophy. That was undoubtedly the biggest highlight of his final season with the Washington Nationals.

Even better, his Phillies avoided a sweep by topping the Mets 6-0 on Wednesday night. Harper, the baseball player, went 1 for 4 with three strikeouts.
