Bryant hits game-winner for Tift versus Northside

Jan. 14—WARNER ROBINS — TeShawn Bryant's put-back Friday night gave the Tift County Blue Devils their first region Region 1-6A victory of the year, 68-67, over Northside of Warner Robins.

Bryant cleaned up the rebound as time expired, after a missed 3-pointer and the Eagles blocking another previous Tift shot attempt.

Tift's Lady Devils cawed Northside, 76-24, though it was much closer in the early minutes. Head coach Julie Conner-Johnson said her squad was only up 14-9 after the 1st quarter. A little chat between periods snapped them out of the funk.

Over the next eight minutes, the Lady Devils scored 37 points to Northside's 2. Jimmya Cushion scored 15 during those eight minutes, with eight more from Caitlyn Burgess.

They only scored four points in the final quarter, no concern at all as Tift was up 71-21, way beyond mercy rule territory.

Cushion finished with 31 points, the second Lady Devil in as many contests to surpass 30 (Burgess scored 36 against Thomas County Central Jan. 6). Burgess poured in 22.

The 68 points were a season high for Tift County's boys, almost a week after one of their toughest games, 29 points against Thomas County Central.

Tift did well most of the game, according to Blue Devils coaches, but saw a big lead dwindle in the 4th before Bryant came to the rescue. They had a 22-8 lead after one quarter, 30-24 at halftime.

J.J. Lamar led a balanced offense with 12 points. Tristan Boone, Kaden Lawson and Jaden Nelson had 10 points each, with Bryant at 8.
