Bruins reveal new uniform numbers ahead of 2021 NHL season originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
When the puck drops on the 2021 NHL season in just over two weeks, Bruins fans will notice some differences in what the B's will be wearing.
Not only will the team roll out new 'reverse retro' jerseys this season, but some players also will have new numbers on their jerseys.
Frederic is the only Bruin in history to wear No. 82, but now he'll be wearing a number that most B's fans will recognize from the days of P.J. Axelsson and Gregory Campbell.
Lauzon -- one of only two Bruins to ever wear No. 79 -- will follow Johnny Boychuk and Noel Acciari wearing the double nickels. And Studnicka will now wear one of the most frequently used numbers in team history. He'll be the 32nd player to don No. 23, joining Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson, Chris Kelly, Steve Heinze, and Craig Janney.
The B's also announced uniform numbers for offseason signings Greg McKegg (No. 18) and Craig Smith (No. 22) on Wednesday.
McKegg will hope to fare better in No. 18 than the most recent Bruins to wear it: Brett Ritchie, Lee Stempniak, and Kenny Agostino.
Smith, who wore No. 15 during his nine seasons in Nashville, had to find a new number since the B's have retired No. 15 in honor of Milt Schmidt. Instead, he'll don No. 22, most recently worn by Peter Cehlarik but made famous in Boston by Brad Park and Shawn Thornton.
