Maine Mariners are Boston Bruins' new ECHL affiliate originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

The Boston Bruins have a new ECHL affiliate, and it's one local to New England.

The B's have had an ECHL affiliate since 1991, most recently with the Gwinnett/Atlanta Gladiators from 2015 through 2020.

The Gladiators have been replaced by the Maine Mariners, who announced their partnership with the Bruins on Wednesday.

“The Boston Bruins are excited to establish an affiliation agreement with the Maine Mariners of the ECHL,” Bruins general manager Don Sweeney said in a press release.

“The Bruins and Maine Mariners have a long player development history, as well as having a passionate fan base in Portland and throughout the state of Maine. We are looking forward to building a strong working relationship with Comcast Spectacor, Daniel Briere, and the coaching staff of the Mariners.”

The Mariners joined the ECHL in 2018 and had been affiliated with the New York Rangers from that time until this new agreement with the Bruins.

Maine's 2021-22 ECHL home schedule begins Oct. 22 against the Worcester Railers.
