Bruce Feldman lists Texas’ Stan Drayton as potential candidate for Temple head coaching job

What an absolutely wild week it has been in the college football world.

Coaching rumors have been swirling for weeks now, and although a few head coaching vacancies have already been filled, several other programs are scrambling trying to find the right guy to lead their program.

Lincoln Riley left a major vacancy at Oklahoma when he chose to head out West to take over at USC. It’s unclear who the Sooners will target as his replacement, but they’ll likely have to swing big. LSU is viewed as the other top coaching job on the market, since Florida chose to hire Billy Napier and TCU went with Sonny Dykes.

Among the smaller programs now looking for a head coach is Temple. Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports reported on Monday that the Owls fired head coach Rod Carey after three seasons with the program.

Moments after Temple parted ways with Carey, Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports mentioned that Texas running backs coach Stan Drayton will likely become a potential candidate to fill that role.

Drayton is viewed as one of the top running back coaches in the country, and has brought stability to the program since 2017. Only Drayton and Andre Coleman were retained by Sarkisian when Tom Herman was fired.

Recruiting has been Drayton’s bread and butter over the past several seasons, and there’s no doubt that Texas’ biggest recruiting win was bringing in the nation’s No. 1 running back in the country for the 2020 class, Bijan Robinson.

Drayton’s proven track record of producing talent for the next level is unparalleled. It’s likely that Sarkisian will do his best to keep him in Austin, as this particular position group is the strongest on the roster.

NFL teams have tried to pry Drayton away from Texas at times, but with no success. Will Temple have different luck?
