Browns' Perrion Winfrey back on field as next court date in assault case set for July 11
BEREA — Browns defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey was back on the field for the final day of their minicamp on Thursday. The same day, he had a court hearing back in Harris County, Texas, in his continuing misdemeanor assault case.
Winfrey was not required to appear in court for Thursday's hearing, which was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. At the hearing, his next court date was set for July 11 at the same time.
Winfrey, 22, was arrested April 10 in Harris County, Texas, after he allegedly caused injury to his girlfriend by "grabbing" and "pulling" her with his hand, according to court documents. He was released on $1,000 bond.
Thursday was the first time during the Browns' three-day mandatory minicamp that Winfrey participated on the field. He was, according to a team spokesman, in the facility both Tuesday and Wednesday even though he wasn't on the field.
Winfrey and cornerback Greg Newsome II were unharmed in a carjacking that occurred outside of the Filter Bar on West Superior Ave. in Cleveland around 3:30 a.m. Monday. According to the Cleveland Police report, "(Name redacted) went to the parking lot to go to the vehicle when six masked men jumped out of an unknown car and robbed them at gunpoint. (Name redacted) stated (he) was robbed of some jewelry he was wearing and that the suspects fled the scene in his truck."
"This is something that we take very seriously," Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Tuesday of the robbery. "Obviously, our organization, our players are aware of things that we’ve got to make sure we're doing to keep ourselves safe, but we just will continue to educate our guys. And then in this particular instance, I'm really happy those guys are OK."
Winfrey is entering his second season. He was the Browns' fourth-round draft pick, 108th overall, in the 2022 draft out of the University of Oklahoma.
