Brookwood to host home opener vs. Maclay

Aug. 29—THOMASVILLE — The Brookwood Warriors will host their 2023 home opener on Friday night as they welcome in Maclay. The Warriors are coming off of their first win of the season, a 41-0 beating of Wewahitchka.

The stars for the Warriors in their latest win were Rodge Waldrop and TJ Thomas. Waldrop was lights out, completing over half of his passes for 293 yards and three touchdowns. The recipient of those three touchdowns was Thomas, who also rushed for three touchdowns giving him six in the game and ten on the season. If Maclay's defensive performance against Deefield-Windsor is any indicator, the Warriors Waldrop-Thomas connection will be essential for a home victory.

Maclay did a good job defending the run against the Knights. They held Deefield-Windsor's group of four rushers to under 100 yards. However, the Knights found success in the air. Their QB Lance Sceals passed for 151 yards and three touchdowns. That bodes well for the Warriors as Waldrop has had no problem passing the ball and finding open receivers.

On defense, the Warrior secondary will have to be on point. Maclay likes to throw the ball a lot. Against Deefield-Windsor, the Marauders passed the ball 32 times as compared to their rushing attempts, which held at 22. Maclay's QB George Grant completed 22 of those 32 passing attempts for 252 yards and a TD, though he did throw an interception. The Warriors will also have to watch out for receiver Nash Beshears. His seven receptions against the Knights went for 127 yards.

Brookwood currently has the momentum coming off of a blow out win. Their star player, TJ Thomas, just had an all-time great performance, their QB is throwing dots, and their defense just got a shut out. If they can carry that momentum into Friday night, the Marauders are be in for a rude awakening.

This game has potential to be a QB vs. QB, high scoring battle. Offense will be on full display Friday night as the Warriors take on Maclay at home at 7:30 p.m.
