Brooklyn Nets ranked #1 in latest Rookie Wire NBA power rankings

The Brooklyn Nets have made quite the ascent in the league as they are now ranked #1 overall in Rookie Wire’s NBA power rankings published on Monday. The Nets are currently 27-13 (second in the Eastern Conference, tied for second in the entire NBA) and have won nine of their past 10 games.

Recently, Brooklyn has impressive wins over the New Orleans Pelicans and the Miami Heat. Unfortunately, in Sunday’s 102-101 win over the Heat, Nets superstar Kevin Durant suffered a MCL sprain in his right knee late in the third quarter. On Monday, the Nets announced the sprained MCL diagnosis and that he will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

For the season, Brooklyn ranks 14th in the NBA in points scored per game (114.6), but is fifth in points allowed (110.6) for an average point differential of four, which ranks as the 5th-best in the association. Brooklyn’s next game is Thursday as they host the Boston Celtics.

Here’s what Rookie Wire’s Cody Taylor had to say about ranking the Brooklyn Nets as the top team in the NBA:

“The Nets had their 12-game win streak snapped on Wednesday, but continue to perform at a high level. They are one game out of first place in the East after posting a 25-7 record since Nov. 4. They are fourth in offense and second in defense over that span. However, the Nets will be without Kevin Durant for at least two weeks due to a left MCL sprain. We’ll see if Kyrie Irving, Ben Simmons and the rest of the team can carry the load without Durant.”
