Bronson man Peter Farris Casey gets 30-75 years for child pornography

Branch County resident Peter Farris Casey, 30, must serve a minimum 30-75 years in Michigan Department of Corrections for his part in the sexual abuse of a 9-year-old girl.

A Kalamazoo County Circuit Court jury in October convicted Casey on six sex crime charges for directing a Kalamazoo woman, Shannon Renee Moore, 37, to videotape her sexually abusing the little girl and sending him the videos. Casey never was present with the victim when abuse took place.

“He was sending her messages telling her what to do, then sending him the video because he was an over-the-road trucker,“ according to Michigan State Police trooper specialist Kyle Bowers. .

The case began in March 2019 when the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in Coldwater, followed up on a tip. The tip was sent to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children regarding a Facebook messenger account the two were using to send the child pornography.

Casey, who had been living in Bronson since 2017, previously lived in Coldwater. He was found guilty of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

He also was convicted of aggravated sexual abuse on a child, possession of sexually abusive material involving a child, using a computer to commit a crime and using the internet to communicate a crime with another.

Bowers detailed the communication and video for the jury during the trial.

Judge Gary Giguere Jr, said when he sentenced Casey, the defendant was “not entitled to live in a civilized society.”

Moore pleaded guilty to first-degree CSC and was sentenced to 20 to 35 years in March 2020. She also pleaded guilty to using a computer to commit a crime and production of child sexually abusive material. She received sentences of four to 20 years for those offenses. Moore does not become eligible for parole until 2039.

Both Moore and Casey are not permanent registered sex offenders. Both are subject to electronic monitoring if they are released.

Bowers believed the couple possibly were grooming another child for sexual abuse when the arrests were made.
