Broncos’ order of picks in 2023 NFL draft after Sean Payton trade

After the San Francisco 49ers were knocked out of the NFL playoffs, the Denver Broncos were set to select 29th overall in the 2023 NFL draft.

Denver acquired that Niners pick through the Miami Dolphins in the Bradley Chubb trade mid-season last year. That trade put the Broncos back in the first round after the team traded their original first-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks as part of the Russell Wilson trade last spring.

Now the pick is on the move once again.

The Broncos have agreed to trade the 29th overall pick (and a second-round pick next year) in exchange for ex-New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton (and a third-round pick next year).

After the Payton trade, Denver is now left with just five picks for the upcoming NFL draft.

Round 3: No. 67 via Colts (2022 draft trade)
Round 3: No. 68 own pick
Round 4: TBA own pick
Round 5: TBA own pick
Round 6: TBA via Steelers (Malik Reed trade)

The exact placement of the team’s selections in the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds will not be confirmed until after the NFL announces compensatory picks later this offseason.

The Broncos could also acquire more picks, of course, through offseason trades. For now, though, the team is set to have five picks in April.
