Aston Villa head to Brighton and Hove Albion this weekend hoping to push their chances of securing European football for next season. Villa have stumbled recently, but got back to winning ways in deserved fashion by beating Arsenal 1-0 last weekend.

That result left Villa ninth in the table, with a game in hand over several of the sides above them and every chance of staying right in the mix for a Europa League spot, given the inconsistencies being shown by most teams.

Brighton did suffer FA Cup disappointment in midweek against Leicester, but prior to that they had lost just two of 13 games across all competitions, with a big run of regular draws finally giving way to victories as they eased their relegation worries across January and February.

The Seagulls drew with Burnley last time out in the league and are 10 points clear of the bottom three heading into the weekend, in 15th, though they have played a game more than both the Clarets and Fulham, who are 17th and 18th respectively.

Prediction

Both sides are likely to fancy their chances of taking all three points if on top form. Brighton’s defence has been excellent of late, but Villa do have in-form attackers of their own - so could edge it. Brighton 0-1 Villa.
