Brighton, Hartland could meet for girls lacrosse state championship

Brighton and Hartland moved one step closer to a potential rivalry clash in the state Division 1 girls lacrosse championship game.

Brighton, the defending state champion, rolled to a 16-4 victory over host Northville to win its fifth consecutive regional title.

Hartland, meanwhile, won 14-9 over Lakeland at Oxford to win its 10th regional championship in the past 11 seasons.

Hartland (17-3) will take on Forest Hills Northern (19-2-1) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in a state semifinal at East Lansing High School.

Brighton (15-8-1) will play Bloomfield Hills or Birmingham Seaholm in the other semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fenton.

If Brighton and Hartland win their semifinals, they would meet for the state championship at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Rockford.

Ella Toth and CeCe Mainhardt scored four goals each, while Georgia Gill scored three times to lead Brighton.

Sophia Heady and Kaia Malachino had two goals and one assist apiece for the Bulldogs.

Kloey Merenuk, Libby Knapp and Montana Chuba each had four goals for Hartland. Madeline Turcotte had six draw controls.

Boys lacrosse

Brother Rice 20, Brighton 10

Brighton’s season ended at 16-5 in the state Division 1 quarterfinals against a Brother Rice program that has won 15 of a possible 17 state championships.

Connor Kammer and Ryan Velarde had three goals each for the Bulldogs. Ridge Boehmer made 14 saves for Brighton.
