Brian Mitchell is many things: A Washington Football Team legend, a should-be Hall of Famer, a top-notch golfer and an impossible person to win an argument with.
And soon, he'll officially add children's author to that list.
On May 5th, 2021, Mitchell's first book, A Champion's Heart, will be released. According to a press release from the book's publisher, A Champion's Heart is meant for kids who are nine to 12 years old and will look at Mitchell's rise from playing street football in Louisiana to becoming a Super Bowl champion for the Burgundy and Gold.
In all, Mitchell hopes the work will particularly motivate its African American readers to chase their dreams just like he once did.
"At a time when African American children seem more vulnerable than ever to negative typecasting and seem more likely to encounter demoralizing comments and a lack of support, this book counters that and encourages them," Mitchell said. "It shows them through words and pictures how they can be a success in whatever they undertake."
Instead of partitioning its lessons into chapters, A Champion's Heart will be divided into four "downs." Those downs will each focus on a certain part of Mitchell's life. In all, it'll be 32 pages.
"Both parents and children alike will find this an inspiring read, one they will return to time and time again," the press release stated. A Champion’s Heart is beautifully illustrated and offers a cultural diversity that is lacking in children’s book literature today."
