Brewers place Braun (back) on DL

The Milwaukee Brewers placed outfielder/first baseman Ryan Braun on the 10-day disabled list Thursday, retroactive to May 14, with middle back tightness.

A corresponding move will be made Friday, the team announced.

Braun missed the Brewers' entire series against the Arizona Diamondbacks this week as a result of the ailment. He was a late scratch from the team's lineup Monday and told reporters Wednesday it was "far more likely than not" that he would land on the DL.

The 34-year-old has battled back injuries in recent years, including needing surgery to relieve a herniated disc in October of 2015.

Braun has hit .222 with five home runs and 20 RBIs this season. He struck out four times in five at-bats in his last game against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.

Braun has recently seen his playing time at first base increase while Eric Thames is out recovering from thumb surgery. With Braun sidelined, Jesus Aguilar is expected to receive the majority of playing time at first.

The Brewers are off Thursday before traveling to face the Minnesota Twins for a three-game interleague series this weekend.
