Update | Snow, slick roads close I-84 both directions in East Oregon. Winter storm warning

Interstate 84 was closed to eastbound traffic just east of Pendleton late Monday morning due to slick roads and severe winter conditions, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The interstate reopened eastbound briefly early Monday afternoon before closing in both directions at 1:45 p.m.

The Department of Transportation reported multiple crashes between Pendleton and La Grande, Ore.

The agency warned that Highway 204 also was closed to all but local traffic and that travelers should not try to get through Eastern Oregon on that route.

I-84 through the Blue Mountains was under a winter storm warning until 4 p.m. Monday with 2 to 4 inches of snow forecast to accumulate, according to the National Weather Service.

The chance of show will decrease to 40% Monday night and 10% on Tuesday, according to the weather service. But more snow is likely Wednesday and Thursday.
