Breaking down Bears’ latest roster moves ahead of matchup vs. Bucs

The Chicago Bears (3-3) are gearing up for a rematch against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-1), where Chicago is looking to rebound following a frustrating loss to the Green Bay Packers (5-1).

Ahead of Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers, the Bears made several roster moves, including some that could have a significant impact for a defense looking to contain Tom Brady and Tampa Bay’s offense.

Here’s a look at the roster moves the Bears made on Tuesday, which included losing a couple of key defensive players.

OLB Robert Quinn lands on reserve/COVID-19 list

The Bears placed outside linebacker Robert Quinn on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday, which puts his status for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers in jeopardy. According to Jason Lieser, Quinn appears to be vaccinated as he hasn’t been wearing a mask at press conferences, which is a requirement for unvaccinated players. If Quinn tests positive, he’d need two negative tests 14 hours apart before Sunday to play against Tampa Bay.

Safety Deon Bush was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday after suffering a quad injury during Sunday’s loss to the Packers. Bush will miss a minimum of three games. Bush was a key reserve who stepped up in place of an injured Tashaun Gipson earlier in the season, and he’s been a solid special teams contributor. That leaves the Bears with Eddie Jackson, Gipson, DeAndre Houston-Carson and Marqui Christian at safety.

DB Teez Tabor signed from practice squad to active roster

With Deon Bush on injured reserve with a quad injury, safety Teez Tabor was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster in his place. Tabor, who made a strong impression during the offseason, battled Marqui Christian for a roster spot earlier in training camp and preseason.

RB Chris Thompson signed to practice squad

Chicago signed Chris Thompson to the practice squad after hosting him for a tryout on Monday. The Bears have concerns with depth at running back with David Montgomery sidelined with a knee sprain and Damien Williams on the reserve/COVID-19 list. While rookie Khalil Herbert will get a bulk of the reps in their absence, there’s not a lot of depth behind him with Ryan Nall and Artavis Pierce, who is on the practice squad.
