Braves pitcher sets off fire extinguisher in clubhouse after loss
Sean Newcomb was, as the kids say, “big mad” after he allowed the game-winning run in the Atlanta Braves’ 7-6 loss to the Miami Marlins that was part of a bullpen meltdown on Saturday.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Newcomb “kicked a trash can that slammed into a fire extinguisher, popping it open and clouding the team’s clubhouse and entire downstairs.”
Propelled by a large fan, the resulting dust cloud covered everything — jerseys, hats, players and coaches.
Newcomb apologized and offered to pay for any damages, the Associated Press reported. A cleanup crew spent most of Saturday night and early Sunday morning cleaning the mess.

The Braves had carried a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but the bullpen allowed four runs in the inning and then Newcomb gave up a game-winning sacrifice fly in the 10th inning.
Quick redemption
Newcomb redeemed himself (on the field, at least) on Sunday. The Braves, who lead the NL East by 6.5 games, managed to hold onto a one-run over the final three innings in a 5-4 win over the Marlins. Newcomb struck out two batters and contributed to that effort.
The 26-year-old is 5-2 with a 2.96 ERA in 36 appearances this season. And his antics might have ignited a fire under the team.
"I think it was a good thing that happened yesterday,” outfielder Ender Inciarte said, via 680 The Fan. “We lost the game, a rough game and then that happened. Everybody was thinking about the fire extinguisher, we weren't thinking about what happened in the game.”
