Brandon Beane: Bills have ‘had conversations’ with Ryan Fitzpatrick about retiring with team

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane “wouldn’t close the door” on the idea of Ryan Fitzpatrick retiring with the team he said via video conference on Tuesday.

Fitzpatrick, 39, retired from the NFL. Having played for nine teams, the QB said to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday that he didn’t think retiring with one of the teams he played for is in the cards.

“It’s not like one particular team is going to hold a press conference for me,” Fitzpatrick said.

But the Bills GM is open to the idea, admitting the two sides have “had conversations” about it.

“If it’s something he wants to do, we would of course listen,” Beane said.

Post-Bills career, Fitzpatrick continually praised Buffalo and the Bills. He always recalls it as the place he loved to play for the most.

“Those are my people. I feel like I understand them and they understand me. It was one of the great pleasures of my career playing there in Buffalo,” Fitzpatrick said.

We’ll have to wait and see if Fitzpatrick does make a decision to retire with a team, namely the Bills.

If he were to pick one team, the easy choice should be Buffalo.

Not only does Fitzpatrick tout the Bills, it was the longest tenure he had with any team during his career. His stay in Buffalo as a player spanned four years.

But if Fitzpatrick decides not to retire with the Bills by signing a one-day contract with the team, it’s understandable. He’ll likely not want to upset any of the other eight teams and fan bases he played for.

Even if they do all already know he holds Buffalo in higher regard than the rest.
