Boys swimming: Montevideo swims past Willmar

Jan. 2—MONTEVIDEO — The Montevideo boys swimming and diving team pulled off a home win over Willmar on Tuesday.

The Thunder Hawks pulled away with a 96-81 victory at Montevideo High School.

Nolan Christopher and Mickey Hess each won two events for Montevideo. Christopher won the distance events, the 200- (1 minute, 55.93 seconds) and 500-yard freestyle (5:30.10). Hess was the winner in the sprint events, the 50 freestyle (23.70) and 100 freestyle (53.43).

Also gaining wins for the Thunder Hawks were Austin Dunn (200 individual medley, 2:15.65) and Gavin Arends (diving, 182.00). The Thunder Hawks were also 3-for-3 in the relay events.

David Lammers (100 butterfly, 58.36), Evan Wallestad (100 backstroke, 1:05.30) and Jacob Loerzel (100 breaststroke, 1:08.35) were each winners for the Cardinals.

Montevideo next competes in an invitational beginning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hulbert Aquatics Center in West Fargo, North Dakota. The Cardinals host St. Cloud Apollo for another dual at 6 p.m. Thursday.
