Boys hockey: Willmar Cardinals fall to Becker/Big Lake, 4-2

Jan. 15—PRINCETON — Becker/Big Lake scored three straight goals to come away with a 4-2 non-conference boys hockey victory over Willmar on Monday at First Bank and Trust Arena.

The loss puts the Cardinals' winless streak at seven games. They are 0-6-1 since last winning on Dec. 16 against Redwood Valley.

Tied 1-1 in the first period, the Eagles' Tate Spilde scored with 1:24 left before intermission. Then at 9:10 of the second, Spilde scored his second in what proved to be the game-winning goal.

Brayden Graning and Samuel Rusin also scored for Becker/Big Lake.

Cullen Gregory finished with a goal and an assist for the Cardinals. Jordan Gorans tacked on the other goal. Charlie Swart and Henry Michelson both had assists in the loss.

Willmar plays Morris/Benson Area at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Benson Civic Center. The two teams previously played on Dec. 5, with the Storm winning 1-0 at the Willmar Civic Center Arena.
