Boys hockey roundup: Alexandria jumps out early for big win over Willmar

Jan. 25—WILLMAR — Alexandria evened its season out with a win over Willmar.

Alexandria, ranked 11th in Class A, used a three-goal first period to set the tone for a 6-0 victory over Willmar in a Central Lakes Conference boys hockey game at the Willmar Civic Center Arena.

The win puts Alexandria at 8-8-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the Central Lakes Conference. Willmar drops to 5-13-1 overall and 0-8-0 in the CLC.

Grady Olson and Evan Anderson led Alexandria's offense. Olson scored two goals and had an assist while Anderson finished with a goal and two helpers.

Alexandria built a 3-0 first-period lead after goals from Jack Lamski, Evan Klimek and Olson.

Alexandria out-shot Willmar 46-15, including 22-5 over the first 17 minutes.

Willmar senior goalie Mason Thole made 40 saves in the loss.

Willmar is back on home ice at 4:15 p.m. Friday to play Prairie Centre.

The St. Cloud Crush won their third straight game while River Lakes dropped its third straight game at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud.

The loss drops the Stars to 8-9-2 overall. The Crush are 7-9-1.

River Lakes next plays at 7 p.m. Thursday against Breckenridge/Wahpeton in Wahpeton, North Dakota.
