Class 6 semifinals

South Lakes 52, Hayfield 41

Patriot 55, Oscar Smith 44

Isaiah Vick scored 17 points, including six during a crucial stretch late in the fourth quarter as the Pioneers held on for a win at C.D. Hylton High.

Patriot (23-4) earned a spot in its second straight state championship game and will play Hayfield or South Lakes at 1 p.m. next Saturday at VCU’s Seigel Center in Richmond.

The Pioneers led by seven points in the third quarter before Travis Johnson helped lead a Tigers comeback. Johnson scored 14 points in the third quarter, and his drive and bank shot with 2:07 in the period gave Oscar Smith a 35-31 lead.

But Patriot outscored the Tigers 18-7 in the fourth quarter and held Oscar Smith scoreless on its final five possessions. The Tigers missed four shots and committed two turnovers during that stretch.

Vick scored on a layin with 2:40 left and went 4 of 4 from the free throw line in the final 39 seconds.
