Boys basketball roundup: RCW Jaguars, senior guard hold off YME Sting

Feb. 29—RENVILLE — The Renville County West boys basketball team earned another game this season by beating Yellow Medicine East 69-62 Thursday night in the Section 3A-North playoffs.

The seventh-seeded Jaguars opened up a 37-25 halftime lead then held on to beat No. 10 YME. RCW advances to play No. 2 MACCRAY at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Montevideo.

Ryan Schrupp led the way for the Jaguars. He had 29 points, six rebounds, six assists and a block. Jack Wertish added 16 points and Jon Driggs contributed 11 points, eight rebounds and two steals.

YME (3-21) was led by Drew Almich, who had 15 points and five rebounds and DJ Whitebuffalo, who had 14 points and four rebounds.

Luke Dingmann had another big game as Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa rolled to the victory at Royalton.

Dingmann, a 6-foot-4 senior, had 20 points, 11 assists, nine rebounds and three blocked shots. Hayden Sobiech chipped in with 19 points, four assists and three steals and Luke Illies tallied 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals for the Jaguars.

Ethan Albright, a 6-foot-3 junior forward, had 17 points and two steals for the Royals. Ryan Vannurden, a 6-2 senior guard, added 14 points for Royalton.

BBE closes out its regular-season schedule at 7:15 p.m. Friday at Hancock.
