Boys basketball roundup: Brainerd dominates Willmar Cardinals, 93-51

Feb. 2—WILLMAR — The Brainerd boys basketball team opened up a game that was close early to dominate Willmar 93-50 Friday night at the Big Red Gym.

Eli Hoelz pumped in 43 points for the Warriors. He's a 6-foot senior guard who also had six rebounds and three assists.

Luke Diem, a 6-6 senior forward, added 11 points for the Warriors.

Avery Christensen had 20 points and Jackson Schnichels added 13 for the Cardinals.

Willmar goes to Alexandria at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.

Tied 27-all at the break, New London-Spicer outscored Litchfield 35-21 in the second half to secure a Wright County Conference win at New London.

Leading the way for the Wildcats was Grant Paffrath with 30 points. Chi Schneider came up with 10 points, and William Danielson had eight points, 13 reobunds and three blocks.

Jack McCann finished with 11 points and five assists for the Dragons. Alex Medina also finished in double figures with 10 points.

New London-Spicer plays Glencoe-Silver Lake at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Glencoe. Litchfield hosts Rockford at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Mainstreeters cruised past Minnewaska at Sauk Centre.

"We struggled shooting tonight," Lakers head coach Zachary Traphagen said of his team, which shot 11/50 from the field (22%). "Most of that can be attributed to the very good defensive play of Sauk Centre.

"They played an excellent all-around game and we didn't play our best. We will refocus and get ready for Benson."

Minnewaska's Alex Panitzke scored a team-best seven points. Tristan O'Neil had six points and Marc Gruber and Connor Frey both had five.

The Lakers to Benson at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The Warriors are now 5-4 in the West Central Conference while the Dutchmen are 6-4 (11-7 overall).

BOLD plays host to Montevideo at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bird Island.

Dawson-Boyd lost its second game of the season at Castlewood, South Dakota.

Castlewood's Lane Tvedt recorded a game-high 21 points. Bryon Laue and Jamison Keslzer both dropped nine points.

The Blackjacks' Brayson Boike had 18 points with 11 rebounds, four blocks, two assists and a steal. Gunner Liebl also had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, adding four assists and a block.

Dawson-Boyd plays MACCRAY at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Clara City.

The Braves are now 8-11. The Bulldogs drop to 4-13.

Benson plays host to Minnewaska at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood.
