Boys basketball roundup: ACGC piles up the points to beat Mayer Lutheran

Mar. 1—GROVE CITY — If you want to push the basketball, that's just fine with the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City boys basketball team.

The Falcons scored their most points of the season in a 100-86 Section 2A-North victory over Mayer Lutheran on Friday night.

The seventh-seeded Falcons advance to play at 8:01 p.m. Tuesday at No. 2 Sleepy Eye in the 2A-North quarterfinals.

It was the most points ACGC had scored since an 87-53 win over Maple Lake on Jan. 4 in Grove City. The Falcons also lost 105-82 to Redwood Valley on Jan. 30 in Redwood Falls.

Senior guard Kyler Pickle scored a career-high 36 points for ACGC. He also had 13 assists and three steals.

Tucker Johnson added 18 points and Marcus Forsythe and Jaxon Drange each had 17 for the Falcons.

Nathan Lindesmith discord 29 points and Levi Hahn added 20 for the 10th-seeded Mayer Lutheran.

Ryan Hirst, a 6-foot-5 junior forward, had 22 points and nine rebounds to lead Fergus Falls past Willmar in the regular-season finale at Fergus Falls.

Aikhem Bethel, a 5-11 junior guard, added 14 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Otters.

Avery Christensen had 20 points, three assists and two steals to lead the Cardinals. Jackson Schnichels added 10 points and a blocked shot for Willmar.

Pairings have yet to be announced for the Section 8AAA playoffs. Willmar is likely to play on the road Tuesday in the first round.

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa closed out the regular season by beating the Owls at Hancock.

BBE is 16-9. Hancock is 11-14.
