Boys basketball: Pirates stay undefeated in EIAC play

Jan. 8—CONNERSVILLE — Greensburg opened the weekend on the road Friday at EIAC foe Connersville with both teams looking to stay unbeaten in the EIAC. The difference in the ball game was the third quarter. The Pirates outscored the Spartans 12-6 (breaking a 24-24 halftime tie) en route to a 49-45 victory.

Greensburg improves to 2-0 in the EIAC. Connersville is now 2-1.

Greensburg senior Bradley Lutz led the Pirates in scoring with 14 points. Jack McKinsey was also in double figures with 13 points and Drew Busick hit the 10 point mark. Addison Barnes-Pettit finished with nine points and Reece Beavers had three points.

McKinsey pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Barnes-Pettit and Beaver both had four boards. Busick and Barnes-Pettit both dished out a team-high three assists.

Saturday, the Pirates traveled to Shelbyville to face the Golden Bears. After falling down by 13 points in the third quarter, the Pirates battled back to get within four, but couldn't get all the way back, falling 57-52.

Both teams are now 8-4 on the season.

A key factor in the game was the 3-point shooting. Shelbyville hit 11 shots from beyond the 3-point arc. Greensburg made just three.

McKinsey led all scorers with 26 points. Busick was next with nine points. Barnes-Pettit added six points. Beaver had five points followed by Lutz four and Justin Adkins two.

McKinsey made it a double-double performance with 10 rebounds, one assist and two steals. Lutz grabbed five rebounds. Barnes-Pettit and Busick both had two assists.

Shelbyville was led by Damon Badgley with 19 points, including six 3-pointers, and Caden Claxton with 17 points, including four 3-pointers.

Greensburg travels to Batesville (8-3) Thursday.

North Decatur

GREENSBURG — Visiting Hauser was able to keep a hold on first place in the MHC with a 65-54 victory Friday at North Decatur.

The Jets are 10-2 on the season (lost to Southwestern (Hanover) 59-52 Saturday) and 3-0 in the MHC. The Chargers drop to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in the MHC.

Hauser led 16-14 after the first quarter and extended the advantage to 30-23 at the half. After three quarters, the Jets led 46-34 en route to the 65-54 win.

Leading the Chargers in scoring was Kaden Muckerheide with 18 points, three rebounds and a team-high eight assists. Brady Mauer also scored in double figures with 13 points to go with a team-high six rebounds. Owen Eldridge made it three double digit scorers with 10 points and four rebounds.

Chase Youngman added five points and two rebounds. Cooper Parmer tallied three points and three rebounds. Logan O'Dell finished with three points, three rebounds and two assists. Mason Morris had two points, three rebounds and one assist.

In the junior varsity game, North rallied from a 6-point deficit after three quarter to ground the Jets 33-30.

Owen Rennekamp led the Chargers in scoring with 13 points. Mason Kunz was also in double figures with 10 points. Garrett Schwering added eight points and Grayson Downey scored two points.

The Chargers host South Decatur Friday in MHC action.
